Bret Kirby Acting Assistant Section Chief, Domestic Terrorism Operations, Counterterrorism Division FBI Headquarters
Mr. Kirby has been an FBI Special Agent for over 23 years. During his career he has investigated various federal violations to include governmental fraud, drugs, bank robbery and domestic terrorism. Mr. Kirby supervised a squad in the Baltimore office of the FBI responsible for investigating acts of domestic terrorism, weapons of mass destruction violations and federal emergency response and intelligence collection. In 2011 Mr. Kirby transferred to FBI Headquarters and has managed a unit directing domestic terrorism investigations nationally. Mr. Kirby has participated in several high profile investigations to include the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta, Georgia, including the search for Eric Rudolph, and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. While assigned to FBI Headquarters Mr. Kirby has directed investigations including bombing matters, the Aurora Colorado theater shooting, the LAX shooting, the Sikh Temple shooting, and managed the command post for the Boston Marathon bombing. Mr. Kirby is a certified Crisis Management Coordinator, Firearms Instructor, SWAT Sniper and Tactical Instructor.

Prior to entering on duty as an FBI Special Agent Mr. Kirby graduated from North Carolina State University where he majored in accounting, was the Chief Accountant for a small management company and was a Military Policeman in the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
