 Cort Coghill
Cort Coghill Critical Infrastructure Program Leader Battelle
Cort Coghill has worked in a variety of roles involving protection of critical infrastructure assets. As a physical security specialist in Europe he managed the design build efforts for military installation operation centers that were later tested during the 2003 Italy blackout. During this 12 hour event, cascading failures provided invaluable insight and awareness into the challenges of maintaining operations and the fragile nature of grid infrastructure. Cort later went on to a major DoD acquisition program focused on large scale protection of U.S. Government Facilities across the United States. He led an engineering team of professional to examine the broad impact of all hazards facing military installations to include grid resiliency. Cort later helped implement a Design Basis Threat methodology that looked at the security of assets, including grid infrastructure, from both physical and logical perspectives. These efforts allowed for tailored solutions that helped to focus on local threats and vulnerabilities. Cort now works for Battelle, a recognized solution provider for the protection of critical infrastructure including electrical grid analysis. Battelle’s methodology involves a performance based approach to physical and logical security design.
